The pieces are everyday talismans, modern treasures, things you glance down at, smile a knowing smile and continue on. They're textured and imperfect, not polished, shiny and perfected to within an inch of their life. That’s not what life is about. It’s messy, it’s crazy and it’s a story worth telling.
Sondr London is a brand aimed at creating jewellery inspired by life’s journeys, experiences and adventures. I started going on solo trips when I was about 20. The one thing I absolutely loved about the experience was meeting people I’d never have the opportunity to meet otherwise. People always wondered why I preferred travelling alone but it was the best way of hearing the stories and experiences of others; everyone has their own story to tell and I wanted to create something that celebrates that. The word 'Sonder' means just that. It's the realisation that everyone around you is living a life just as vivid and complex as your own. Sondr wants to celebrate the ideas that bind us, creating pieces with meaning that resonate with your own personal story.
You might be surprised to hear that I'm not your average jewellery designer. I am actually a chartered accountant by trade and have no formal jewellery training. I was so desperate for a creative outlet, I headed off to Hatton Garden to create my pieces with the very talented jewellers in the historic area of London in my lunchtimes and evenings.
The first collection, Chapter One, features a series of pieces focussing on new beginnings, courage and a go-getter fiery attitude. I'm an accountant by trade so I had absolutely no idea what I was doing but I was just desperate to create and have something of my own that I could be proud of. The pieces in Chapter One were inspired by those feelings of venturing outside of my comfort zone and by others around me trying to chase what makes them happy, even if it scared them. They're there to remind you to go out and live life to the fullest. Wear them, love them, grow with them and make them a part of your story.
This is the first page in our story and I'm so excited to see where it goes!
